The project

The future Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport Terminal 1 is a M€ 215 project. Launched during summer 2013, it will integrate the building, the outside, the airplane parking area and the associated equipment.

This represents a substantial change for the airport, since the future Terminal 1 will represent a new area of 70,000 sqm on 5 levels (including 3 passenger levels), equivalent to the area of all current terminals added together. Designed to meet new passengers’ expectations and behaviours, it will leave a large space to shops and services, which constitute a real living space for the airport.

Customer challenges

To support Lyon’s local economic development and international influence, Aéroport de Lyon’s ambition is to become the second airport gateway in France and the ideal starting point of all South East France.

The new infrastructure will accompany the development of Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport with the expectation of welcoming 15 million passengers by 2020.

The terminal building will welcome the Low Cost and conventional traffic’s growth and will meet passengers’ expectations and new ways of consuming through innovating Equipment.

COMECA solution

Thanks to its experience in the infrastructures market, COMECA is proactive towards different players on this project (operators, engineering offices and installers) in terms of both space optimization and electrotechnical studies.

By providing Aéroport de Lyon with its GALAXIS OEM switchboard certified IEC 61439, COMECA entirely satisfies the customer’s specifications by allowing the association of different brands (protection and measurement) within the same product.

COMECA’s R&D Department has worked particularly on the integration of an innovative measurement system within switchboards. The development of a new optimised and safe connecting block facilitates the installation and the on-site commissioning of the communication network while increasing the business reliability.

Finally, more than 100 “intelligent” drawers split into 30 GALAXIS cubicles will communicate with the site supervisory systems. This solution will enable the distribution management of the 5000A switchboards through the GALAXIS Low Voltage switchboard.

The intervention of COMECA Services team will ensure reliability of the installation during the commissioning starting in May 2016.
